Biography
Hazel Mead is an ilustrator, propelling soceity forward with her feminist work covering a range of topics from periods, female masturbation, body image, mental health and the patriarchy. Hazel studied fine art and illustration at Coventry University, graduating in 2017. She has worked on commercial projects for clients like Netflix and Adobe.
She first started creating her illustrations for herself drawing observaions from the world around her and for organizations and causes she believed in. Soon after though, women and girls all over started reaching out to her on various social media platforms thanking her for the relatable and educational content. Now Mead focuses on topics women are girls are taught to be ashamed about growing up.
Hazel’s Work
Hazel’s feminists artworks are often playful and cheeky with a sense of humor stating that she loves mking people laugh through her art and crafting wit into her pieces. She highlights taboo topics in her depictions of subjects like periods, menopause, period sex as well as postpartum bodies and difficulties faced such as loneliness, weakened pelvic floor, weight gain, guilt and constant worry. Mead uses colorful characters to create stories and make the subject matters easier to digest. Because of this style of artwork many schools purchase her prints for lecturers and start conversations around topics taboo to society. Her depictions of sujects like pubic hair and female anatomy are lighthearted and full of character.
